Mitchell & Black knitwear are a design lead duo handcrafting unique collections of knitted accessories using only the finest of yarns. Drawing inspiration from their everyday surroundings, Mitchell & Black knitwear turn the ordinary into extraordinary creating timeless pieces in vibrant colours and contemporary patterns.
Established in 2011, Mitchell & Black was built on the knowledge and expertise of two constructed textile professionals with a mutual love of knitwear. Over the past decade, collections have grown with the heart of what Mitchell & Black do best in mind. From walls to walkways, fauna to flora, the creative senses of the pair are always waiting for their next inspiration to pop into sight.
All our products are made from 100% lambswool which is spun and dyed by Z. Hinchcliffe a well established Yorkshire based spinner and dyer.
The raw materials for the lambswool is sourced from the merino breed of sheep from Australia and South Africa where Z. Hinchcliffe ensure animal welfare is high on their agenda.
Lambswool is the first shearing of the merino sheep and produces the softest and finest wool. This in turn allows us to produce finished items of an exceptionally high standard and quality.
We take sustainability seriously and endeavour to use suppliers who have the same ethos. Lambswool is recyclable, compostable, biodegradable and is naturally renewable making it friendly to the environment. The knitted cloth we produce is breathable, gives natural odour control and keeps us warm when we are cold.
Our aim is to produce timeless, high quality accessories which become wardrobe staples and can be worn for many years to come.
Our entire range is designed and made by ourselves in our home studios on the East Coast of Scotland. We use a variety of hand powered knitting machines to produce our colourful, patterned fabrics. We knit, construct and hand finish every item in our collections ensuring the upmost quality at every stage.
